A bit about Steve:
Steve’s passion for black music started in 1982 when he found London soul pirate, Radio Invicta while searching the FM airwaves. He became an avid listener to soul pirates JFM, Horizon and Solar up to 1985, also taping lots of the shows.
A bit about Steve Johns:
He began DJ-ing in 1986 while at college and in 1988 joined Kingston Hospital Radio until 1990 when he left to become involved with Starpoint FM, a pirate in South London in the 1980’s but broadcasting legally at the Southport Dance Weekender`s from 1990 until 1998.
In 1991, Steve and Russ Jones started a regular gig at the Cockpit Bar in Kingston, Surrey, which lasted 4 years with Gilles Peterson, Norman Jay, Patrick Forge, Jasper, Jay Strongman and Kevin Beadle guesting regularly. Gilles Peterson suggested that they should move to bigger things in London, which resulted in “No Room For Squares” and “London’s Calling” at the Arches in London Bridge.
In the late 1990’s, Steve left promoting behind him and in 1998 became involved with the renaissance of Solar Radio.
